Never Before Used Schtuff: NBUS #5

I am so excited to play along with the NBUS Challenge!  Darnell at djkardkreations, her friends and followers have been so kind and supportive as I have embarked on the world of blogging.  The challenge is anything goes but you must use something that has never been used.  Boy, I do have my share of NBUS.  I think that I MUST have something and often the item sits on the shelf sadly neglected.

Today I am focusing on a Tim Holtz Stamp set that I NEEDED to fill out my collection of supplies to create masculine cards.  While I have used the tire track image from this set, ALL of the other images have gone un-inked.  Today that changes!  I used all of the images from the set so now they have all received a little bit of love.  I'm very happy with the final result and eased my guilt a bit along the way.

I started with a neutral main panel and randomly stamped all of the images in tans, grays, navy and red (I did stamp off most of them to get a subtle effect).  The flag is a bit of patterned paper that was in my scrap pile and it felt at home here.  The main image was stamped in navy.  All of the elements were given a little border of red or navy before adding to a card base.  I love the main image!  The service man looks so happy and ready to service your car.  I am old enough to remember when gas stations were indeed service stations and an attendant would pump your gas, clean your windshield and check your oil.  I do think that most stations were self-service by the time I started driving though.  It is still a happy memory of time gone by.

Darnell and friends have even arranged for a number of amazing prizes for this challenge.  I encourage you to stop by the NBUS challenge site and check out the fabulous submissions and the generous sponsors.  Why not play along too!

Happy Stamping,
Dana

  4. Your card evokes the exact same memories for me! In fact, my DH and his dad ran a service station for years and years and years (Greenings Garage in Dauphin, Manitoba) so this image tugged at the old heart strings...in a good way!

I love the wee peak of the fishtail banner! AWESOME stamped background paper and awesome colors!

  6. I love this card Dana. The background is like a masterboard, very clever. I remember when the man washed the windscreen too. Showing our age! Barbxx

  7. Ah, thank you for your kind words of friendship and support, Dana! It was my pleasure to be of any help I could. I'm certainly happy I found your blog! Your card brought back "good-ol-days" memories for me, too! I'm lucky in that I married a guy who does all that for me and, boy, has his injury made me realize just how wonderful it's been to have that service all these years cuz I hate doing it myself! I do love your card, though, and appreciate that you played in my NBUS Challenge #5 ~ which was also so long ago, lol! I’m sorry that my nursing duties have delayed my visit to you. Enjoy your day! Hugs, Darnell

    1. You are so sweet Darnell to make a point to visit and comment especially with your nursing duties. I've been there and know how it can throw life upside down. I had so much fun with the NBUS challenge and was thrilled to see the amazing turnout. A true testament to the wonderful network of friends and followers you have nurtured.
