I immediately fell in love with the sketch challenge at
CAS(E) this Sketch this week! I think this sketch is a keeper that can be used for any occasion. My first thought was to use Washi tape to represent the horizontal stripes. But I really wanted the sentiment to overlap the top stripe and was concerned that I wouldn't get a clean stamped image on the Washi tape and the slight height difference with the paper would leave a gap. I rummaged through my stamps for border stamps and selected 3 that I thought would make an interesting combination. For color I chose 3 of Stampin' Up's 2014-16 In Colors (Hello Honey, Blackberry Bliss and Lost Lagoon). I liked the kicky font from the Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler for the "thanks". A simple border of Lost Lagoon to finish off the card.
I wasn't quite done with the sketch though. I kept going back to the Washi tape idea and the idea of using a die cut sentiment. Most of my die cut sentiments were too big or too small until I remembered this sweet little hello. I offset a black cut of the sentiment to give the blue a little depth, added a thin border and scattered on a few sequins to round this card out.
Happy Stamping,
Dana
I like both of these cards but especially the hello. The diecut and sequins make it really special.

Thank you so much for stopping in and for your kind words!
DeleteHi Dana!! I, too, was reaching for washi, but know this... I never could have accomplished it as well as you have done! Gorgeous washi, and colors WOW! Now on to your first card... could you tell me more about those lovely stamps? SO happy to see you in the gallery this week...

Your so kind Michelle! It was such a great sketch to play with too.
DeleteI never know if folks want to read through all of the details about the cards, but I am always happy to share what I did.
"Thanks" is from Paper Smooches: Sentiment Sampler
Yellow band is from Stampin' Up: Fresh Vintage
Blue band is from Stampin' Up: Painted Petals
Blackberry band is also from Stampin' Up: You're Lovely
Thanks again Michelle!
Love both the cards...but glad you decided to follow your crafting spidey senses and go with the Washi tape because it is INCREDIBLE! Love how the wee peek of black on the offset 'helloe' makes the sentiment really pop!
ReplyDeleteThank you Geri! I like the Washi tape card too. Sometimes it take a little trial and error to get where you want to go.
DeleteMy first instinct with this sketch was washi, too! I love how you used it!
ReplyDeleteFabulous takes on the sketch!
Thank you Leigh! I love this sketch. I appreciate that you stopped in.
DeleteThese are both great! I love them both. You have some cool washi tape!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Chrissy! Washi tape is my friend, as long as I remember to use it :)
