Skaters

Well, here am again playing along with The Challenge.  I really like the sketch and the cards I made previously, though completely inspired by the sketch, didn't end up looking much like the sketch.  I pulled out one of my favorite Christmas images, the skaters.  I grew up a block and a half from a lovely little park.  Great picnic area, playground area, ball fields, swimming pool and ice skating rinks.  We spent our summers in the pool and the winters on the rink.  Though I was never an exceptionally skilled skater, I could go forwards and backwards.  Often went to the rink after the warming shack closed in the evening while in college and enjoyed alone time on the ice.  This skating image always reminds me of the peaceful time on a crisp winter's evening.

I recently added Lawn Fawn's Stitched Rectangles to my die collection and decided to pull them out today.  I layered a strip of patterned paper on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock and cut with the largest die.  The skaters were adhered to the center of the patterned paper.  I cut a smaller panel with a stitched rectangle die, de-embossed it with the snowflake swirl and sprayed it with glimmer mist.  The panel was added with dimensionals and topped with a few rhinestones.  Cherry Cobbler flags were added to round out the card. I love the subtle extra something the stitched rectangles add.

After multiple attempts to capture the glimmer spray on the raised panel, I was able to catch a glimpse of it by holding the card in the window.  See the little bit of glimmer in the upper right?  IRL it is a lovely contrast to the card base.

Happy Stamping,
Dana

  2. I bet you did a fist pump when you saw the bit of sparkle & shine in your photo! Honestly, I think I spend more time trying to get a good photo than making a card! It can be sooooo frustrating!

Your post warmed my heart! My dad always made us a small rink in the backyard and they would literally have to drag me in (kicking & screaming) when it was time for bed! I TOTALLY get how you feel!

Sorry...I digress...LOVE YOUR CARD! Love the colors, love the sparkle, love the image, love the debossing, love the bling and love the stitched borders!

Thanks for a nice trip down memory lane XX OO

    1. LOL, I think I just did slip a little fist pump in there. I continue to try to improve my photos, some are better than others. A backyard rink! Your house must have been the most popular place in the neighborhood to hang out. I'm so glad you enjoyed my story and my card. Thanks Geri!
